Device Pin Colors

Device Pin Colors

Device Pin Colors

SiteOwl uses three different default device pin color schemes. The scheme used depends upon the phase the security system is in: Design, Install or Manage.
  1. When a system is in the Design phase, default device pin colors differentiate devices by System Type or a custom color of your choosing, simplifying the plan review process.
  2. When in the Install phase, default device pin colors allow you to quickly assess installation progress, indicating Planned, In Progress and Installed devices.
  3. Once a system is live and in the Manage phase, default device pin colors provide insight into the operational status of devices: Non-Operational, Semi-Operational and Operational.

Design Projects

During the design phase, projects are represented in SiteOwl as Design Projects. By default, the color of the device pins in Design Projects is set to Device Color. This color scheme is based on either the device's System Type or a custom color that you've selected.

System Type device pin colors

To apply a custom color to a device, first click the Edit Plan button and then click on the device you want to change. The device's details will be displayed. On the Device tab you'll see the Device Color selector. The System Type color is selected by default or you can choose any of the custom colors.

Installation Projects

During the the install phase of a security system, you'll use Installation Projects. By default, the color of device pins in Installation Projects is based on their Installation Status. An Installation Status of Red = Planned, Yellow = In Progress, & Blue = Installed. You can switch the device pin color scheme of an Installation Project plan by clicking the Filter icon at the bottom left of the plan and changing the Pin Color setting from Install Status to Device Color.

Live System

Depending upon your SiteOwl licensing, you may not have access to the Live System features.
After an installation project is completed, the devices are published to the Live System where they can be managed. By default, the color of device pins in the Live System is based on their Operational Status: Red = Non-Operational, Yellow = Semi-Operational or Blue = Operational. You can switch the device pin color scheme of the plan by clicking the Filter icon at the bottom left of the plan and changing the Pin Color setting from Operational Status to Device Color.
